Beneath the Bodhi Tree: Journey to Healing explores the intriguing intersection between the emerging science of trees and the core realizations of the Buddha. The film follows the pilgrim’s arc of the Buddha’s life, from birth, to enlightenment, teaching, and death, with each milestone marked by the steady presence of trees. The journey includes interviews with biologists, conservationists, and Buddhist teachers, and intimate and luminous visuals from world forests and sacred pilgrimage sites. By journey’s end, the film invites viewers to rethink our place in — and responsibility to — this beautiful, vulnerable, and fundamentally interconnected world.

Beneath the Bodhi Tree is in early production. We are currently raising major production funding, conducting interviews, and planning our major production trip to Southeast Asia for late 2026.  Our goal is complete the feature-length film by the end of July 2028.

Director Statement

Beneath the Bodhi Tree is my love letter to this tender and interconnected earth. I am drawn to the mystery of the enlightened moment, and to trees as exemplars of and witnesses to this Buddha-nature that permeates all. My goal is to explore what it means to heal, both inwardly and outwardly, in this time of human-induced climate change.
