Journey into the Wild Heart of the Second Buddha
Precious Guru: Journey into the Wild Heart of the Second Buddha (2019) is Triptych Journey’s first film production and took eight years to complete, from conception to completion. The feature-length documentary, which was shot in Mongolia, Nepal, Tibet, Bhutan and India, explores the living legacy of Guru Rinpoche, also known as the Second Buddha and ‘precious teacher’ of the Himalayan people. The film gives vivid and colorful insight into the mythical life of the 8th century Indian yogi who carried Buddhism over the Himalayas into Tibet.
Key contributors to the film include:
- Ronen Schechner, Director of Photography
- Catherine Hollander, Editor
- Victress Hitchcock, Story Consultant
- Triptych Journey Board Members Michael Ginzberg, Peg Strait, and Sonam Chophel
Precious Guru was funded by more than 500 donors from six continents and forty-five countries. In addition to the English version, the film has been translated into Spanish, Portuguese, and German, and screened across the world.

“I did not set out to make a film. I began this project because Guru Rinpoche’s story kept surfacing in my life and travels and I wanted to know more. What began as a personal exploration became an idea for a multimedia project which became a production trip and finally, a film. Precious Guru is my expression of gratitude for this journey; for the surface, depths, and beauty of Guru Rinpoche’s story; and for the Himalayan people, the true keepers of this story.”
